Amanda Mc Guinness, Training Officer with AsIAM – Ireland's National Autism Charity, will facilitate a presentation for Plan Dublin 15 on the topic of - "Talking To Your Child About Autism".
In this presentation, Amanda will seek to
- Support parents of autistic children post-autism identification to talk to their children about their autistic identity.
- Amanda will share her unique viewpoint as an Autistic adult and as a parent to three autistic sons.
- She will provide neuroaffirmative advice and support on how to talk to your child about their autistic identity.
- She will highlight the importance of understanding and accepting yourself as a neurodivergent individual in a predominantly neurotypical world.
- She will discuss how to support your child in understanding their autistic identity, highlighting the importance of normalising differences in humanity, physical and brain differences.
- She will explore the strengths of being Autistic and explore challenges faced by autistic individuals today. She will recommend reading materials, together with a host of additional resources.
There will also be time for a short Q&A on the night.
