Friday's Maths Week Challenge
18th Oct 2024
Today is the last chance we'll have to celebrate Maths' Week in school but it continues until Sunday and here are some ideas and games to try over the weekend or even during the midterm holidays.
- Go on a number walk around your neighbourhood. What numbers do you see? Maybe you could count the number of pumpkins, skeletons or witches you see on the way to the shop. Which group has the most, which has the least?
- Play hopscotch - maybe instead of just using numbers 1 to 10 you could try counting in 2s, 5s, 10s or even 100s!
- Bingo - this is a great game for helping us recognise our numerals. For an extra challenge in 1st and 2nd Class you could play using sums to work out the numbers. For example, 9+9 so you have to cross out 18 or 50 and 2 more, so you would cross out 52 etc.
- Games that use dice or a deck of cards are great for practicing number recognition here are some that you might like to try: Snap, Snakes and Ladders, Go Fish, Matching Pairs.
Best of luck and I hope you have lots of fun practising and using your maths and number skills.🔢😎
